Being a pretty frequest poster on Instagram I’ve decided this year to take up the challenge of the ever popular March Meet the Maker.
Created in 2016 by Joanne Hawker #MarchMeetTheMaker is a 31 day Instagram challenge that runs every year and offers a list of daily prompts aimed at small creative businesses to help them showcase different aspects of their work. The challenge can be a great aid to those who are stuck in a bit of a creative rut, want to explore new ways of getting their work out in the open to build their following and business or those artists and makers who are still building their confidence within the creative community.
This months prompts include ‘Favourite to make’ (for which I posted my image below, entitled ‘She’), ‘Motivation/Goals’ and ‘Top Tip or Advice’, alongside some tricker areas for thought such as ‘Dream Collaboration’ and the very on trend ‘Reducing Waste’.
As I write, we are only on day 4 of the challenge and I’m already finding it quite cathartic to look back and talk, sometimes for the first time, about the path my career has taken, how and why I work in the way I do and trying to push past the boundaries to dream of where I would like my work to take me. All of this being quite nerve wrecking for an artist who dreads having to talk to people about my own work. Hopefully this challenge will help me get past that and help me to learn a bit more about myslef as an artist in the process.
